'IF' Board Game Design
This is a group project to design a board game with the game maps, game pieces and rulebooks. The project divides into three parts, which means that the first two parts combine together to become the final board game.

Inspiration
We did research on the existing board games with the game boards, game maps, game pieces and rule books. We were inspired by the GO game and we also watched the movie 'The Surrounding Game' to know more knowledge about the GO game. Thus, we wanted to create a game box that would be wooden and would contain all the game pieces in the box.
Concept
The game would be separated into couple version as Part A and friend version as Part B. Finally, the two versions with different game boxes would combine together into a board game that players can choose to play couple version or friend version. The game box would be placed in the sober bar, where it is quiet and a little bit romantic for friends and couples to have a drink while playing this game.
Part A - Couple's Game
It is a board game for couples to play at the sober bar. They can have a drink and play this drinking game to know each other better and enhance the relationship.
Game Box
The game box is made of light oak wood, and it contains all the game pieces needed to play this board drinking game for couples. The box has flocking inside to place all game pieces. The game map is printed on the wooden board, which is put on the top of all other game pieces. The rulebook is printed inside the cover of the box. There are magnets on the top of box and box’s cover to close the game box.
Game Pieces
Chess Pieces: There are two colors of chess pieces to represent two players.
Couple’s Game Map: It is essential for couples to play this game. There are couple tasks on some of the blocks.
Question Card: There are 20 question cards with different couple’s questions.
Dice: It is a randomizer in this board game.
Tiny Wine Glass: Players may get it after picking the function cards. Losers need to drink one more shot if they get one.
Function Card: There are 20 function cards with different instructions.
Game's Rule
Part B - Friends' Game
Based on Part A, it is a board game for friends to play at the sober bar. Up to four friends can have drinks and play this drinking game to enhance friendship.
Game Box
The game box is made of light oak wood, and there are two drawers with flocking to contain all the game pieces needed to play this board drinking game for friends. There is an individual wooden board of rulebook. The friends’ game map is printed on the top of the game box.
Game Pieces
Chess Pieces: There are four colors of chess pieces to represent up to four players.
Tiny Alcohol Bottle: There are seven types of alcohol drinking bottle. Losers who have it need to drink that type of alcohol drinking.
Dice: It is a randomizer in this board game.
Tiny Wine Glass: Players may get it after picking the function cards. Losers need to drink one more shot if they get one.
Question Card: There are 20 question cards with different questions. Each question card has couple's and friends’ questions.
Function Card: There are 30 function cards with different instructions.
Game's Rule
Part C - Combination
It is a board game for both friends and couples to play at the sober bar. Couples can play with the couple’s board to know more about each other, or friends can play with the friends’ board happily with drinks.
Game Box
The game box is made of light oak wood, and there are two drawers with flocking to contain all the game pieces needed to play this board drinking game for friends and couples. There is an individual wooden board of rulebook. The top part of the game box is foldable, which means that the couple’s game map is on the top, and the friends’ game map is printed inside the foldable board.

Chess Pieces: There are four colors of chess pieces to represent up to four players.
Cherry Box: Players who answer three or more
questions right can get a tiny cherry. They will get a fruit cocktail as a prize.
Dice: It is a randomizer in this board game.
Tiny Wine Glass: Players may get it after picking the function cards. Losers need to drink one more shot if they get one.
Question Card: There are 20 question cards with different questions. Each question card has both couple’s and friends’ questions.
Function Card: There are 30 function cards with different instructions.
Game's Rule
Storyboard - Play 'IF' Game
Part A - Couple's Game
1. Katie rolls the dice and moves to the black block, so she cannot get a function card. But the block has a couple task for them to complete.
2. John rolls 2 and stops at the red block. He gets a function card to pick a question card to ask Katie.
3. Next, John stops at the black. Katie stops at the red, and she gets a function card, which is to get a tiny wine glass.
4. At the end, John arrives at the ending point first.
5. Katie lost the game, so she needs to have a drink plus one more because she got a tiny wine glass in the game.
Part B - Friends' Game
1. Four people with different colored chess pieces start playing IF board game.
2. Ben stops at red, so he gets a function card which lets him get a Tequila tiny bottle.
3. Peter and Katie roll the dice and they stop at black. John stops at the red and gets the function card for picking a question card.
4. John chooses to ask Katie the one for the couple written on the card since they are a couple.
5. Peter wins the game. Each of the others have a drink. Ben orders Tequila because he got a tiny Tequila in the game.
Part C1 - Couple's Game
1. A couple comes to the bar and plays the couple drinking game. They use the couple board.
2. Katie is asked questions, and she gets three questions right. So, she gets a tiny cherry from the cherry box.
3. At the end, the server gives her a special fruit cocktail as a prize.
Part C2 - Friends' Game
1. The couple’s friends come. They pull out the foldable board to play with the friends’ game board.
2. They play the game happily with drinks together.
Environment & Materials
Game Environment
People can play IF board game in the sober bar, which is a quiet bar for people to not only have a conversation but also have a drink. The goal of IF board game is to enhance the relationship of couples and friends, so sober bar is a good and comfortable place for people to play the board game with drinks in order to know each other better.
The IF board game box is placed on each table in the sober bar. If couples come to the sober bar and play the game, they can use the couple’s board map to play the game to know more about each other; If friends come to the bar, they can use the friends’ board map to play the game. Sober bar can provide relaxing and tranquil atmosphere for people.
Materials
Light Oak Wood
The whole box and the dice are made of light oak wood, which is a light colored wood. This kind of wood looks clean and easy to read words and patterns that are printed on it.
Dark Red Flocking
The interior of the box is made of dark red flocking because it can protect game pieces better and also makes the drawers look more elegant.
Waterproof White PVC
The function cards and question cards are made of waterproof PVC, which is a solid material, so the cards are firm enough for people to use in the bar.
Silver Shine Glass
The tiny wine glass is made of silver shine glass to make it look like silverwares. This material also makes the tiny wine glasses look more elegant.
Glass
Tiny alcohol bottles, chess pieces, tiny cherry are all made of different colored glass.
